Winning a bunch sprint at the Duncan Murray Wines Road Race last year was major achievement for Maddie, being a breakthrough moment for her as evidence of her improved positioning and bike handling. She sees herself as a climber at the moment, but with an eye to develop her skills into a more all round racer, contributing to team success and hopefully podiuming at a national road or circuit race.

Another 'cycling fan', Maddie would love to race the Ardèche Tour but dreams of the Tour de France, citing Claire Steels as a climber who has developed into an allrounder to become the UK's second highest placed rider in the Tour. She's also a track fan, and if she won the lottery she'd buy a track bike and aim for the Olympics!

With so many time demands, Maddie is happy to jump on the turbo to train over the winter, but only when she's not able to get out to Spain for some warm weather and you'll find dance or drum & base on her playlist.

Yoga and mindfulness are Maddie's release off the bike, as well as a hot bath after long training rides.

And Maddie's cycling pet hate, not calling out potholes during group rides.

Maddie is another of our new riders for 2024 bringing a broad range of experience and skills to the team.

From watching the Tour de France as a child to winning races last year, Maddie continues to develop as a racer, team member and has her focus on more podiums this season.

Whilst Maddie was on a bike as soon as she could walk her competitive cycling took off during University when she took up triathlon to keep active and fulfil her competitive spirit. She quickly calculated that cycling was her main love (Maddie is a Chartered Accountant) and concentrated on two wheels.

Her first victory came in an urban hill climb in 2019, up Swains Lane, and she quickly came to realise that she was not only naturally good at cycling and climbing, but she enjoyed the process of improving and achieving success.

In 2020 Maddie joined her first team, Team Watto, moving to FTP Racing before joining us this winter.

As with most girls racing in the domestic peleton, Maddie juggles the demands of a busy career as an accountant with the commitment needed to train, prepare and race on her bike. This has been a greater challenge as she has battled long Covid, managing the additional fatigue and resulting intestinal issues, although the discipline needed has taught Maddie to manage herself during races.
