East Cleveland Classic 2024 - Race Preview

Sunday 14th April 2024, Saltburn
9am start

The 2024 Women’s British Cycling National Road Race Series rolls in to Saltburn on Sunday 14th April for the East Cleveland Classic Race.

A familiar course to those who watched last year’s national road race championship, the iconic Saltburn Bank will again form the backdrop for what’s likely to be the pivotal point of Sunday’s race.

With forecast good weather on Sunday we’re looking to enjoying a morning by the seaside and are expecting to name a powerful line up as we build on a strong start to the series at the Cicle Classic.

With a shorter race than last year’s national champs, the team will race four laps of a 28km loop, starting and finishing in Saltburn before visiting Guisorough and Britton and the ascent of the Bank bank to the start/finish.

The race is scheduled to start at 9am on Victoria Terrace and each lap is scheduled to take between 35 and 45 minutes, so expect a finish around 11:40- to 12:15.

With a constantly undulating profile throughout and the major climb of Saltburn Bank sure to see it’s fair share of attacks, this race will suit the climbers in th team and there’s a good chance new signing Lucy Gadd will be brought in for her debut with the team.

WIth an overall prize of £500 for the winner and individual sprint prizes of £100 each on laps 2 and 3 we’re expecting fierce competition from the start.

For spectators looking to come out and support the team on Sunday, Saltburn Bank is the perfect base for cheering the girls on as they climb towards the finish.
The town centre has adequate parking and there are numerous places to purchase refreshments both by the beach and at the top of the climb. If the sun’s shining there is a wide grass verge along the steepest section of the Bank to sit and watch from.

We’ll be bringing you a report and reaction from the race next week and watch out on Instagram for updates and early reaction on Sunday.
