Jessy forms the international contingent of the team for 2024, having been born and raised in Toronto before a move cross-country to Halifax on the East Coast of Canada.

In late 2022, Jessy took the brave decision to relocate to Girona, Spain and, initially taking the opportunity to train in the better weather, soon joined a Dutch cycling club before signing for BePink in May 2023, moving to Italy to race. A serious crash and subsequent injury brought a premature end to that adventure, and she returned to Girona in September to train again, signing for us in October.

Jessy's a gregarious character, leading the on-bike karaoke during training rides and being the first to spot, and wave at, the team photographer! She has confidence in herself and what she's capable of, but also confident in knowing she has a lot to learn, excited to get racing with the team and learning racing in the UK (on the left-hand side of the road!).

Having only visited the UK for a week when she was twelve, Jessy was stoked to be moving to the UK (Sheffield) shortly before the domestic season kicked off, although she was a little apprehensive about the Yorkshire weather, given all the stories her new team members have shared!

Initially a football (we're trying to convince her that "soccer" doesn't exist in the UK!) player and track & field athlete, she took to a stationary bike for rehabilitation before joining some group rides when she realized an early injury would prevent her from reaching her full potential on foot.
In 2021, Jessy found a cycling coach and began to develop her cycling further, although there wasn't really much of a cycle racing scene where she grew up, other than some of her school friends mountain biking.

Jessy's achieved some good results in the races she's participated in and takes particular pride from the process she's worked through, to rise to a high level relatively quickly. Feeling the pressure to achieve in a completely new environment, she's discovered a more balanced approach in her cycling and feels she's the happiest version of herself right now.

Other than her move abroad, Jessy's biggest challenges have been two big injuries, including being hit by a car while training in Spain - but her positive focus has allowed her to rehabilitate quickly and return to training rapidly. Her character best summed up through her tattoos, transforming her crash injury scars into smiling faces.
It seems like Jessy has a lot still to learn about the weather in Yorkshire as she reserves turbo training for injury rehabilitation only; we'll look to revisit that view later in the season when she's settled in Sheffield. A big positive for the move, however, was the recent discovery of a Tim Hortons (Canadian coffee shop) in Sheffield as well as the chance to discover new routes to ride.

Jessy doesn't like to pigeonhole herself in terms of rider type, but likes hard races with bad conditions, the type of things other people hate, like cobbles, rain, cold, and punchy hard courses. She's also a time-trialist, loving the mental challenge of finding a love of the process, rather than a narrow focus on the results.
Unsurprisingly, Jessy has an extensive playlist on the bike, usually containing songs to sing along to, with the odd chill-out tune thrown in. Off the bike, she writes for a running website as a creative outlet, listens to music, talks to friends back home, and watches Netflix.

Alison Jackson is Jessy's idol and someone she's become friends with while living in Girona. Paris Roubaix is Jessy's dream race and one she dreams of winning, just like her friend Alison.

Half-wheeling is Jessy's cycling pet hate, but it's difficult imagining her ever getting too upset while riding her bike; she's always far too busy singing along to her music with a beaming smile, and waving to anyone who catches her eye!
